“Snakes are everywhere” or “Snakes everywhere” is one of the common Frank-isms which many of my friends have heard time and time again.
To my dismay, many of my friends have written me off or have decided to ignore my warnings. There have been also many others who have decided to mock me without understanding the seriousness of snakes being everywhere. In this blog, I have finally decided to explain what this phrase means and provide people some more context into the significance of “Snakes everywhere”.
Definition of a Snake
To start off, I will need to define what a Snake is. And no, when I say “Snakes everywhere”, I do not mean literal snakes as the reptiles. I may not be smart, but I am not stupid.
A Snake— in Frank’s vernacular — is a noun, an adjective and a verb. There are many ways to be a snake, and there are many ways to snake others. Overall, Snake-ness embodies the quote “It is not enough to succeed. Others must fail.” People who are snakes embody and express this attitude in their conduct and the way they carry themselves. To snake some one is along the lines of deceiving, manipulating, misleading. As an adjective, I often describe contemptible behavior as snake behavior.
Snakes are everywhere
It is a genuine tragedy that snakes are literally everywhere. A few examples are manipulative managers, backstabbing coworkers in toxic workplaces, family members who don’t respect your boundaries and wishes. Snakes are everywhere and can even be people you trust the most, people who’ve been your day ones but secretly hoping for your downfall.
Now one might say — with extreme naivety — I love and trust my friends with all my heart. The people around me would never do anything to harm me! Unfortunately, snakes are everywhere. A real life example is Kevin Hart’s best friend of 15 years snaking him for a quick buck (Story Here). It doesn’t hurt to be careful. But does hurt to be careless.
On the behavior of Snakes
- If there is an opportunity for gain, expect snakes.
One thing I find peculiar is when I stopped sharing or discussing things tech during my time at the University of Washington, there were fewer people interested in being my friend. I’m not making any accusations. I’m just noting on some peculiar behavior.
2. If there is an opportunity to be taken advantage of, expect snakes.
Kindness is free to give, but Snakes love to take advantage of others. I believe that in the moments of emotional vulnerability, or distress in someone’s life, snakes will see an opportunity.
3. Snakes lack depth.
Snakes love a quick fix. There seems to almost always be some type of outward show to “prove” how legitimate they are with a “Look at me, Look at me.” type attitude. When rubber meets the road, the metal meets the furnace, these snakes will be nowhere to be seen.
Snakes everywhere
Be diligent and thorough. Be careful and cautious. At every twist and turn, there are snakes ready to swindle you for everything you’ve got — your time, your money, and most importantly your dignity.
